Sonata Arctica

Le groupe Sonata Arctica est né en 1996.Il est composé de Tony Kakko (chanteur/compositeur du groupe et autrefois claveriste), Elias Viljanen (guitariste), Marko Paasikoski (bassiste), Henrik Klingenberg (claveriste) et de Tommy Portimo (batteur).

La toute première incarnation du groupe se nommait Tricky Beans (Haricots Rusés, évidemment, ça fait tout d'suite moins bien... xD). En ce temps, le groupe faisait plutôt du pop/rock, ce qui est quand même éloigné du heavy metal.

Tony Kakko découvre le metal avec l'album Visions de Stratovarius, et tombe sous le charme de ses compatriotes. En 1999, ils enregistrent ainsi une démo nommée FullMoon,ce furent les premiers pas du groupe dans le monde metallique, et décident alors de renommer le groupe en Sonata Arctica, afin d'avoir un nom de groupe plus approprié au style de musique.
